Case Study 03

A client of mine a married couple had been receiving massages from me for around three years. They had moved home and wanted to start a family.

When they got the news of they were expecting I was asked about pregnancy massage, at the time I was not qualified so, I went on a CPD course in pregnancy massage.

For expecting mothers they cannot receive a massage in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy. The first trimester.

The technique I was taught by a female teacher was minimal movement where possible and to support the baby with cushions and pillows. Making sure my client is always comfortable.
Although I knew my client well, a good deep tissue pressure on regular massages, here I had to be completely different, as the pelvic structure was changing shape in preparation for birth.

This is where I put my client in charge, she knew the areas she needed attention, we worked together until she was happy and I could then move onto the next area of concern. Only once all areas of concern had been addressed, I was able to give a full and complete treatment.

The client was concerned being her first child and I was able to guide her though the first massage. I then gave regular massages every two weeks right up until the week of the birth.

The result was a very relaxed mother in control of her pregnancy. The areas of tight muscles and aches and pains were managed on a regular basis. Allowing her to enjoy her time being pregnant. As an aromatherapist I used aromas in the room that the client chose.
